There are those who believe it's simply bad karma from Sterling, who for years was the penny-pinching gazillionaire real estate mogul. In his 27 years as owner, the Clips have been in the playoffs exactly four times, and Dunleavy is the only coach to take them out of the first round. Sterling did alter his ways to attract Dunleavy, and matched big offer sheets thrown at Brand and Maggette the last time around. He even gave Dunleavy a huge extension in 2006. Still, they had their first major blowup last season, and most believe if he didn't owe Dunleavy so much money, Sterling would have dumped him on the spot. Nonetheless, Sterling was willing to spend in this case, and they were looking like a solid playoff team — even without Maggette.

haven't you seen the South Park with the Loch Ness Monster?
Thomas: ... and I yelled. I said, "What do you want from us, monster?!" And the monster bent down and said, "…Uh I need about tree-fitty."
Kyle: What's tree-fitty?
Thomas: Three dollars and fifty cents.
Chef's mom: Tree-fitty.
Stan: He wanted money?
Thomas: That's right. I said "I ain't giving you no tree-fitty you goddamn Loch Ness monster! Get your own goddamn money!"
Chef's mom: I gave him a dollar.
Thomas: She gave him a dollar.
Chef's mom: I thought he'd go away if I gave him a dollar.
Thomas: Well of course he's not gonna go away, Nellie! You gave him a dollar, he's gonna assume you got more!

Darius Miles Get Busted for Steroids?
Henry Abbott of TrueHoop broached a subject that hasn't been reference too much in the latest hubbub over Darius Miles, his future, and his potential impact on the league: an outstanding drug suspension. Jason Quick of The Oregonian wrote last week that Miles faces a 10-game suspension should he ever sign another NBA contract.
This matters quite a bit, as Miles is attempting a comeback and should he play in 10 games in this coming season or the next, Portland's on the salary cap (and luxury tax) hook for the rest of his $27 million contract. Money -- and Portland's fiscal motivations to get this news out there -- aside, Abbott notes a real odd confluence of circumstances which points to performance-enhancing drugs as the impetus for Miles' suspension
Ten games is a very specific number. As Quick points out, if you take that information to the CBA, you'll find that there are two ways to get that suspension: For a fourth marijuana offense, or for a first performance enhancing drugs offense.
In the event that a ten-game suspension is for a fourth marijuana offense, it would follow a five-game suspension (for the third-marijuana offense). Darius Miles has not had a five-game suspension, and the League confirms that if he had had an earlier five-game suspension, we would know about it. So, you do your own police work on what came up on Miles' drug test, you know?
The league has never publicly announced a PED suspension. All the recent NBA drug suspensions have been of the marijuana and DUI variety, save Chris Andersen's infamous two-year ban due to alleged use of hard recreational narcotics. Since Miles has not played in two years, is the league under any obligation to publicize the failed drug test?
It's certainly in the NBA's interest to keep it hushed so long as it does not need to be known; the steroid issue is one of few in which the NBA hasn't taken a public-eye beating, in comparison with the other major leagues.

Re: July 10th Daily Discussion
While running Team USA in Athens, Larry Brown embarrassed himself far more than any of his NBA players did. Brown mercilessly ripped his Olympic team and the selection committee members who picked it, lost games to Puerto Rico, Lithuania and Argentina, and inspired David Stern to call a halftime news conference during the men's semifinals for the sole purpose of blasting his coach.
"This was a team that was put together by everyone, including the coaching staff," Stern reminded. "And this is a great team, so I don't buy the 'Well, I'd like to have this, I'd like to have that.' . . . This whining and carping is not fair to the young men . . . who are representing their country admirably and well."
Brown kept saying he needed a perimeter shooter, even though he was the one who lobbied hard for Emeka Okafor over the Michael Redds and Wally Szczerbiaks the committee favored. Brown also came up with the grand idea of giving LeBron James the walk-on treatment, limiting his minutes when James was clearly among the best players in the tournament.
Under the buss bish, NOW!!!
And jordan hired this guy after that and the complete and total FAILURE in NY
LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) - The Mariners have released first baseman Richie Sexson.
Sexson was hitting .218 in 74 games with Seattle this season, striking out 76 times in 252 at-bats. He agreed in December 2004 to a $50 million, four-year contract.

Re: July 10th Daily Discussion
According to a league source, the Lakers have contacted the Kings regarding Ron Artest and are believed to be offering forward Lamar Odom.
Kings' basketball President Geoff Petrie declined comment on whether the Lakers had called.
"Right now, (Artest is) just a terrific player to have on your roster," Petrie said. "I don't really have any speculation one way or another (about his future). We'll see what other things – not specific to Ron – but if there's some other way we can improve the team or change the team, we'll take a look at it."

Re: July 10th Daily Discussion
Baron Davis and Don Nelson smoked a cigar last Friday in Oakland when the point guard dropped by the Warriors' practice facility to say good-bye.
Nelson says they're still planning on getting together in Maui next month.
Davis officially became a Clipper on Thursday.
